A taste of Andalucían sunshine & culture
In Málaga, the afternoons are warm and golden, the tapas arrive without being asked for, and the local fino sherry – dry, delicate, and ice-cold – pairs perfectly with the salty sea air.
A city of surprising depth
Málaga is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, and the Picasso Museum here holds more than 200 of his works. The Moorish Alcazaba fortress looms over the city, its gardens and ramparts offering sweeping views of the port and the sea. The 16th-century Cathedral is one of Andalucía’s most interesting architectural landmarks.
The Alcazaba: Málaga’s Moorish heart
Built in the 11th century on the site of a Roman fortress, the Alcazaba is a beautifully preserved example of Moorish military architecture. Wander through its layered walls, landscaped gardens, and horseshoe archways for a vivid sense of the city’s long Islamic heritage.
Fresh from the sea
The city has an exceptional culinary scene that seafood lovers in particular will love. Try some espetos, fresh sardines skewered on canes and grilled over wood fires right on the beach. Pair them with a cold glass of locally produced Málaga Virgen fino.
Day trips that dazzle
And with Málaga as your home base, it’s easy to explore the region. Visit the spectacular Alhambra palace complex in Granada, wander the whitewashed hilltop village of Ronda, explore Seville, and discover Pueblos Blancos – the famous “white villages” of Andalucía.
Ready for sunshine, history, and incredible food? Join us in Málaga for a 16-day stay-put adventure on Spain’s sun-drenched southern coast.
The Valley of the Temples: Step into Ancient History in Sicily
Perched dramatically on a ridge overlooking the shimmering Mediterranean, this UNESCO World Heritage Site contains some of the best-preserved Greek temples in the world.
Founded in 582 BC by Greek colonists, the ancient city of Akragas (modern-day Agrigento) was once the powerhouse of the Mediterranean, with a population of 200,000, and the temples were built to honour the gods. Their scale, even in ruin, is staggering.
Temple of Concordia: The best-preserved temple in the valley, this 2,500-year-old structure was saved from ruin when it was converted into a Christian church in the 6th century. You can still see where doorways were cut into its ancient walls.
Temple of Hera (Juno): Perched at the highest point, the Temple of Hera offers sweeping views of the surrounding countryside and the distant sea. Its fire-scorched columns tell the story of the Carthaginian attack of 406 BC – history written in stone.
Temple of Heracles: One of the oldest in the valley, it now stands as eight columns that were re-erected in the 20th century. Despite its partial state, it remains deeply evocative.
The Archaeological Museum: Explore an extraordinary collection of artifacts from the ancient city, including the massive Telamon, a colossal stone figure that once supported the now-ruined Temple of Zeus.
The Valley of the Temples is just one highlight of our 16-day Sicily & Malta tour. We also explore Palermo, Taormina, Syracuse, the baroque jewel of Ragusa, and finish with four days on the island of Malta.
Join us to discover two of the Mediterranean’s most fascinating islands.
Exploring Angkor Wat
There are a handful of places on earth that stop you in your tracks. Where the scale, beauty, and sheer weight of history hit you all at once. Cambodia’s Angkor Wat is one of those places. Seeing its iconic towers, their reflections shimmering in the surrounding moat, is genuinely soul-stirring.
The world’s largest religious monument
Built in the early 12th century by the Khmer King Suryavarman II, Angkor Wat was originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu before eventually becoming a Buddhist temple.
It is enormous, but somehow every detail feels deliberate and human scaled. Intricate bas-reliefs stretching nearly half a kilometre depict scenes from Hindu mythology and historical events. Celestial nymphs carved into the stone walls number in the thousands, each one unique.
The Angkor complex: more to explore
Angkor Wat is the crown jewel, but the wider Angkor Archaeological Park contains hundreds of temples and monuments spread across the jungle. Highlights include the Bayon temple with its famous giant stone faces, the jungle-strangled Ta Prohm (made famous by the film Tomb Raider), and the walled city of Angkor Thom.
Visit Angkor Wat on our 18-day Ancient Kingdoms of South East Asia tour through Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. We’ll cruise through the limestone peaks of Halong Bay, explore the colonial streets of Vientiane, wander the magical old town of Hoi An, and more.
Why travel with us? Reason #6: Comprehensive travel protection
We include a full insurance package with every trip: health coverage while outside Canada, plus cancellation and trip interruption protection. It’s a truly unique offering in the Canadian travel market, and it means you can focus on the adventure, not the what ifs.
Make Málaga’s most iconic dish at home: Espetos de Sardinas
You don’t need a beachside grill to enjoy this classic Andalucían dish – a barbecue or a hot grill pan works beautifully.
Ingredients (serves 4):
- 16 fresh sardines, cleaned and gutted
- Coarse sea salt
- 2 lemons, halved
- Olive oil
- Fresh flat-leaf parsley to garnish
Pat the sardines dry and season generously with coarse sea salt inside and out. Thread them onto skewers, brush with olive oil, and grill over high heat for 3–4 minutes per side. Serve with crusty bread and a squeeze of lemon.
