Back in the day, turning on the T.V. in the summer meant watching one thing – reruns.
In those simpler times – before DVDs, recording or streaming entered the frame – the big three networks would halt regular production of their popular shows for summer and local stations would air reruns of syndicated programs.
This was the only way for us to follow our favourite programs and catch up on the episodes we missed when they originally aired, like Gilligan’s Island, Leave it to Beaver, Bonanza or The Twilight Zone.
As such, we’d happily bring a glass of milk and some cookies into the rec room, plunk down in front of the T.V. and while away a lazy summer afternoon watching rebroadcasts of those classic shows.
Some of these shows left a lasting mark on popular culture. Others disappeared quickly into the T.V. ether. But together, they formed a big part of the past generations’ collective cultural experience.
Because who doesn’t feel that warm nostalgic glow whenever we hear those familiar theme songs from the past? And why do we keep watching them again in syndication today?
So whether you grew up in ’50s, ’60s or ’70s, transport yourself back in time to those childhood summers and turn the channel to Zoomer’s Retro Summer T.V. Trivia challenge.
