Peter MacKay joins Alan Frew in the latest instalment of Life Frew Music, a podcast series hosted by the Canadian rock legend and Glass Tiger frontman (in partnership with Zoomer.com and ZoomerRadio.ca).

Born in New Glasgow, N.S., MacKay, 60, was a powerful player in prime minister Stephen Harper’s Conservative government, serving in multiple ministries including justice, foreign affairs and defence. He left politics in 2015 and moved to Toronto where he lives with his wife, Nazanin Afshin-Jam, and three children while practicing law.

In this podcast, MacKay talks to Frew about his East Coast roots, Celtic music, politics, military service, misinformation, AI, and the soundtrack of a life in public service. He reflects on what’s changed in politics, why public life has become more punishing, the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families, and how music helps shape memory, identity, and meaning. And he shares stories about Nova Scotia, Afghanistan, the Royal Family, Ireland, Willie Nelson, Joel Plaskett and the artists and moments that stay with him forever.

This is Peter MacKay in a way most people have never seen him: thoughtful, grounded, emotional and deeply connected to the people and places that shaped him.
