Georgia Groom has brought her sensibility to clients like Mejuri, Canada Goose and Zara. A British transplant who moved to Canada in the ’90s, she started out working, yes, at a tailoring establishment where she honed her technical skills before moving on to fashion shoots. “It’s truly amazing that I get to make art with all of these incredible teams, that this is actually my job.”

Fashion Versus Style

I think fashion is about trends and what’s new, and style is really about what you love and what suits you. I try to strike a balance between fashion and style – finding the elements in fashion that suit my style.

Rule Breaker

I really think that the “rules” should always be a suggestion. I’ve been doing this long enough to know that the rules change. One year, it’s skinny jeans, the next it’s a wide leg. But one thing that is consistent: quality.  Buy the best-quality garment you can, and you won’t go wrong. I grew up in the ’80s when there was a lot of judgment around women’s bodies, and what was “appropriate.” One thing I’m trying to embrace, from the younger generation, is not to judge. I don’t judge my own body, and I don’t judge other people’s. Ultimately if you like it, wear it, regardless of what the rules are.

Money Well Spent

For a big investment, I’d say an overcoat in any colour other than black. Chocolate brown, dark plum and navy all give your complexion and your style a lift. For a smaller investment, I’d say a really good quality merino wool or cashmere sweater – something that will last more than one season, that you can also fling around your neck like a scarf or extra layer for casual warmth and coziness.

Isn’t It Iconic?

Not to be flippant but I don’t think there are any fashion icons any more. We’re so oversaturated with images of perfect outfits, it’s overwhelming. If I had to pick, I’d say my 14-year-old and her friends. Messy, genderqueer kids, EMO punk sweetness.

Runway To Real Way

The most successful of the 2026 shows felt easy. Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta, for instance.  Even when it’s a statement, I think we still want that ease. And I loved Jonathan Anderson’s pops of powder pink in the Dior Spring/Summer 2026 show.

More Dash Than Cash

Kotn is a great high street brand, for basic t-shirts and knits. A fair price and good quality. They happen to be Canadian!
