The Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) was created by the Government of Ontario to support public protection. HSCPOA’s role is to register and oversee qualified Personal Support Workers (PSWs). PSWs registered with HSCPOA demonstrate their commitment to providing safe, quality, ethical, and accountable care to Ontarians in their homes, hospitals, long-term care homes and retirement facilities, or other environments where care is provided. All PSWs registered with HSCPOA are accountable to HSCPOA’s Code of Ethics, which lays the foundation for HSCPOA’s complaints process.

Our work includes:

  1. Establishing consistency in education and skills-based registration requirements.
  2. Maintaining an online Public Register of PSWs for access to information about Ontario’s HSCPOA registered PSWs.
  3. Ensuring HSCPOA registered PSWs adhere to HSCPOA’s Code of Ethics.
  4. Addressing complaints through a fair and transparent process.
  5. Authorizing qualified HSCPOA registered PSWs to use the HSCPOA PSW Registrant Visual Mark, which enhances trust in the work that HSCPOA registered PSWs do.
