Demi Moore Won Her First Major Acting Award at Age 62, and Family and Fans Are Celebrating Her For It

The family of Demi Moore are among those celebrating the 62-year-old actress following her first major acting award win at the 82nd Golden Globes on Sunday night.

Moore won the award for best actress in a comedy or musical film for her starring role in The Substance, a body horror in which she plays an aging actress who takes a drug to create a younger version of herself (played by Margaret Qualley).

She then delivered a touching acceptance speech (which you can see below), noting that the award marked her first major acting honour in her 45-year career. She added that “thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me I was a popcorn actress and, at that time, I made that mean this wasn’t something I was allowed to have. That I could do movies that made a lot of money, but that I couldn’t be acknowledged, and I bought in and I believed that.”

Moore admitted that she had mostly assumed that her career was done until the script for The Substance came across her desk. “I had a woman say to me, ‘Just know you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.’ And so today, I celebrate this as a marker of my wholeness and of the love that is driving me and for the gift of doing something I love and being reminded that I do belong,” Moore concluded.

For many fans, the realization that Moore – whose best-known films include Ghost and A Few Good Men – waited until age 62 to win a major acting award came as a shock, which is perhaps why so many took to social media to celebrate her win, including her own family.

Scout Willis, Moore’s daughter with ex-husband Bruce Willis, shared a touching video on Instagram of the actress’ family watching her Golden Globes win at home. She captioned the video “SHE DID IT,” with a series of crying emojis.

In addition, social media was flooded with Moore’s fans celebrating.

“Congrats, Demi Moore who deserves #GoldenGlobes for her performance for the Substance but more importantly EVERY WORD of her speech to tell women who are told over & over again they are not enough! Hell yes, put the measurement tape down! You are enough!” one person named Chung Seto wrote on X.

Another X user, Courtney Howard, noted, “Demi Moore’s #GoldenGlobes acceptance speech for THE SUBSTANCE has me sobbing” while a third, named Brian Rowe, added, “She made me cry. What a speech. What a moment.”

Meanwhile, a person with the X username @PRSNTISS summed up the feelings of many fans on social media: “demi moore truly gave the performance of a life-time, the recognition is so deserved and that oscar is next!”
