The Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) is a new regulatory body in Ontario established by the Government of Ontario with a mandate of public protection.
HSCPOA protects the public by establishing consistency in education and skills-based registration requirements. This ensures that HSCPOA registered PSWs are equipped to deliver safe, quality, ethical, and accountable care to Ontarians in their homes, hospitals, long-term care homes, and retirement facilities, or other environments where care is provided.

All HSCPOA registered PSWs are held accountable to HSCPOA’s comprehensive Code of Ethics. This includes expectations for honesty and integrity, professionalism and accountability, and privacy and confidentiality, among others, and adherence to the HSCPOA Act and its regulations. This means that care recipients across Ontario who receive services from HSCPOA registered PSWs can expect safe, quality, ethical, and compassionate care.

Another way HSCPOA protects the public is by addressing complaints through a fair and transparent process. This provides an outlet for anyone to voice a concern about a HSCPOA Registered PSW’s care or behaviour and ensures that all HSCPOA Registered PSWs provide safe, quality, ethical, and accountable care for Ontarians.
As a recipient of health and supportive care services, you can recognize a PSW that is ‘registered’ with HSCPOA and therefore, accountable to HSCPOA, by the HSCPOA PSW Registrant Visual Mark that they are authorized to use. It identifies a PSW who has met HSCPOA’s qualifications for registration. The HSCPOA PSW Registrant Visual Mark demonstrates a HSCPOA registered PSW’s commitment to providing safe, quality, and ethical care – inspiring confidence in both employers and care recipients.
